You look out of the window as you use to do every Sunday, and everything seems the same, but… this Sunday, the 26th of January, is different. This is the day in which you break the chain of monotony, and you step away from your normal life, doctors, barbers, architects, men, women, old and young, all banding together, everything else is put aside to become an ‘Arctic’.
The very first edition of L’Artica hosted under the DeusCYCLEWORKS banner, went down over the week with more than seven hundred riders, all of whom braved the cold and answered the call. All of them with vintage jersey, vintage bikes and good old vintage cycling spirit.
Bizarre people, loyal participants and professionals throwing themselves in the rumble, sharing the road, the meals and cheering together. This is the kind of cycling we love – an informal pedal that gathers people from everywhere. We had guests from Spain, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Australia, USA and Argentina. The whole village of Lonigo and surrounds gets involved to put together an epic day. As participants get hungry for the ride, four pit-stops serving delicious local food has been prepared and managed by volunteers. The 50km track runs through parks, vineyard and villages.
The helter-skelter of the Colli Berici (the picturesque hills of Lonigo) challenged the old rusty bikes - some didn’t reach the end, but at the end, the balance was totally positive. Not finishing the ride could be seen as a positive, the ones who had to quit had more time to dedicate time to their stomaches … not so bad for them.

Guardi fuori dalla finestra come tutte le domeniche e tutto sembra uguale, ma in questa Domenica - il 26 Gennaio - sei diverso, perché questo giorno spezzi la monotonia e lasci alle spalle la tua vita normale. Smetti di essere dottore, barbiere, architetto, uomo o donna, giovane o anziano, lasci tutto da parte e per un giorno sei solo Artico.
La prima edizione dell’Artica sotto il cappello di DeusCYCLEWORKS è finita e in più di settecento hanno risposto alla chiamata, sfidando il freddo armati di vecchi jersey, bici vintage e spirito ciclistico vecchio stile.
Personaggi bizzarri, fedelissimi e professionisti si sono buttati nella mischia, condividendo la strada, i ristori e brindando insieme. Questo è il ciclismo che ci piace, quello che unisce in maniera trasversale gente da tutto il mondo. All’appello non solo gente da tutt’Italia, ma anche diversi paesi: Spagna, Germania, Austria, Belgio, Australia, US e Argentina.
Un intero paese si è mosso per rendere questa giornata epica. Quattro ristori gestiti da volontari, un percorso di 50 chilometri passando per parchi di ville, vigne e paesi. Il sali-scendi dei Colli Berici ha dato filo da torcere ai ferri vecchi: alcuni ce l’hanno fatta, altri no, ma il bilancio finale è stato assolutamente positivo e chi non è riuscito ad arrivare in fondo ha dedicato il tempo tolto ai polpacci allo stomaco… non così male in fondo.
